Dancers' Barre & Me
Rachel Withington, Principal
Dancers' Barre was first established in the Isle of Man by Rachel Withington, in 1993. After being based at Laxey Glen Gardens, Riverside Studio, we moved to Laxey School, in 2001 for a number of years, enjoying a wonderful space in which to train and practise for examinations and shows. In the last year we have moved to lovely accommodation in Laxey Working Men's Institute and really appreciate being in the heart of the Laxey community.
Dancers' Barre enters students for Imperial Society of teachers of Dancing Imperial Ballet (I.S.T.D.) examinations every other year, alternating with shows at The Gaiety Theatre in Douglas.
The I.S.T.D. is a professional association and highly respected within the world of dance. We also hold internal assessments and opportunities for parents to watch classes.
We believe that students should have the opportunity to enjoy dance, to gain confidence and to become healthy, well rounded young people with a passion for the arts.
